Supporting Communities Impacted by COVID-19
In 2020, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation dedicated up to $50 million in funding to support nonprofit organizations addressing the health-related needs of New Yorkers as a direct result of COVID-19.
“When we saw the need created by the pandemic in March, we quickly awarded additional emergency funding for projects that ranged from supporting frontline workers, food banks and shelter providers’ ability to care for New York’s most vulnerable populations, to assisting clinics as they administered care to individuals with COVID-19,” said Foundation CEO Msgr. Greg Mustaciuolo.
We distributed funds across New York State via Coronavirus Emergency Support Grants in two rounds.
Grantees cover a wide range of organizations, including community-based emergency response funds, healthcare providers, Catholic Charities affiliates serving all faiths, and other organizational efforts. These grants address the health and economic impact of those most affected by this pandemic, including older individuals and those with preexisting medical conditions.
We ensured the grants reflected the breadth of issues affecting vulnerable residents of New York State due to COVID-19, including:
- Purchasing personal protective equipment for healthcare and social service workers
- Supplying emergency food to food banks and pantries to meet the growing demand
- Keeping critical social services infrastructure functioning, including case management and assistance to homeless shelters
- Providing hazard and/or overtime pay to frontline, direct service healthcare workers
