Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Announces New Community Relations Directors.

Welcome to Ana Almanzar and Rick Barnes!

Ana J. Almanzar

Ana J. Almanzar, who joins the Administration Team this month, will work to ensure that the Foundation supports local charities, community-based organizations, community leaders, and elected officials throughout New York State. 

Prior to joining Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, Ana most recently served as Chief of Staff to NYS Director of Nonprofits at Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Executive Chamber. There, she led the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative (ESPRI), a $25 million program with a bottom-up approach to alleviate poverty. In collaboration with the NYS Department of State, she also coordinated the Liberty Defense Project, helping immigrants gain access to pro-bono legal services. Ana has also served as program manager of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund. Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Ana holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from SUNY Delhi; a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Columbia University; and a Master’s of International Affairs, Political and Economic Development, and Immigration Policy Reform from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.

Rick Barnes

Richard E. (“Rick”) Barnes, with three decades of experience and a unique understanding of the challenges facing the New York Region, will focus on outreach to New Yorkers in the 44 upstate counties. In addition to Community Relations Director, he will also serve as regional senior advisor to the Foundation’s executive staff.

Prior to joining Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, Barnes served as both legislative counsel and executive director of the New York State Catholic Conference. There, he represented the Bishops of NYS in public policy matters. Barnes is also a past president of the National Association of State Catholic Conference Directors. He received his bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University and juris doctor degree from Albany Law School. Barnes and his wife, Shelia, live in Delmar with their two children.
