Catholic Values.

Rooted in Catholic Values

The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation supports a broad array of programs, activities, and initiatives to improve the health and well-being of New York’s poor, disadvantaged, and underserved populations. The Foundation supports New Yorkers of all faiths and backgrounds but draws its inspiration from the life and example of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. Mother Cabrini’s lifelong commitment to social justice and the Catholic Faith today guide the work of the Foundation.

Some of our core values include:

Respect for human life at every stage
Belief in the dignity and value of all people, regardless, for example, of background, social or economic status, physical or mental capabilities
Preferential option for the poor and marginalized in society

Other key principles, such as environmental stewardship/sustainability, the common good, and solidarity also shape our work of serving vulnerable New Yorkers.

In carrying out our mission, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation adheres to the ethical principles, tenets, and teachings of the Catholic Faith. These include the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Services, published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which are available here.

Applicant organizations do not need to be Catholic, but are advised to familiarize themselves with Catholic teachings in order to better understand this crucial component of the Foundation’s grant application evaluation. Determination about compliance of a grant proposal with the ethical principles, tenets, and teachings of the Catholic Faith belongs to the sole discretion of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.
